The IBM 74Y8679 is a 2-line PCI Express x4 WAN adapter with an integrated modem, IBM feature code EN13 (also known as 2893). It provides two analogue WAN lines with modem functionality from a single PCIe card, used on IBM POWER6 and POWER7 systems for remote console access, call-home service reporting, or legacy dial WAN connectivity where a modem link is still required.

Remote service and call-home functions on Power systems are validated against IBM’s own hardware, and a substitute card can leave those service features unsupported. Tech-Star, based in the UK and shipping worldwide, supplies IBM Power adapters for server maintenance.
