Pluggables of this type sit on FSP CWDM channel cards, converting a client signal (typically Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel or SDH/SONET up to 4 Gbit/s) onto a fixed CWDM wavelength for the line side. Very long reach optics of this rate class typically carry more transmit power and better receiver sensitivity than standard-reach parts, and are not interchangeable with them on a span budgeted for the longer distance.
