Marconi/Nokia T30170.01 Nokia Synfonet / Marconi SDH transmission Optical Transmission Module

The Marconi/Nokia T30170.01 is a Synfonet STM-1 optical interface unit of the short haul 1300 nm type. It terminates a 155 Mbit/s SDH span at the node, and the short haul optics are intended for links inside a building or across a site rather than long inter-exchange spans. Nokia used more than one base number for STM-1 interfaces across the life of the platform, which is why the full code rather than the description is what identifies a unit.

Nokia Synfonet is early SDH, carried into the Marconi portfolio after the 1999 acquisition, and it is still running on private and utility networks where the ring was built once and then maintained rather than replaced. The platform spans STM-1 through STM-16 with 64 kbit/s cross connection, and every node is built up from interface units, control and timing, service and management cards, power feeds and mechanical parts. Spares are sourced by exact code, because the number after the decimal point decides which release and which optical variant a unit will work with.
