The Marconi/Nokia T30013.01 is a Synfonet STM-1 optical interface unit. Nokia’s own parts listings describe the T30013 group as the short haul 1300 nm STM-1 interface, the unit that terminates a 155 Mbit/s optical span at the node and hands its payload into the shelf. Builds inside one base number differ by optics and by release, and the digits after the decimal point are what separate them, so we would ask you to check the suffix against the equipment it is going into.

Synfonet was Nokia’s SDH transport range, sold on to Marconi in 1999 together with the Cambridge development team behind it. A node is assembled slot by slot from a subrack of plug-in units: STM-1, STM-4 and STM-16 optical interfaces, 2 Mbit/s and 34/45 Mbit/s electrical tributary units, a control and timing unit, service and management interfaces, power supply assemblies and shelf mechanics. It behaves as both an add and drop multiplexer and a small cross connect, which is why it stayed in service on utility, transport and private network rings long after the public network moved on.
