Marconi/Nokia T30420.08 is Synfonet stock held with our optical transmission parts. The supplier record gives the code and nothing else, and we have not found a published description for it. Synfonet was discontinued long before the current generation of online parts catalogues was built, so a good proportion of its numbering never made it into any searchable source. That is a reason to inspect rather than to speculate.

Synfonet was Nokia’s SDH transport range, sold on to Marconi in 1999 together with the Cambridge development team behind it. A node is assembled slot by slot from a subrack of plug-in units: STM-1, STM-4 and STM-16 optical interfaces, 2 Mbit/s and 34/45 Mbit/s electrical tributary units, a control and timing unit, service and management interfaces, power supply assemblies and shelf mechanics. It behaves as both an add and drop multiplexer and a small cross connect, which is why it stayed in service on utility, transport and private network rings long after the public network moved on.
