The Alcatel-Lucent 3GV26030AB is the IP Touch 4028 Extended Edition desk phone, an IP telephone from Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Touch range for OmniPCX Enterprise and OmniPCX Office call servers. It connects over Ethernet and takes its power from the switch port using Power over Ethernet, which is why units are commonly supplied without a separate mains adapter. The 4028 provides a backlit display, programmable feature keys and full-duplex handsfree audio, and is aimed at managers, receptionists and other heavy-use extensions rather than general desk positions. It speaks Alcatel-Lucent’s own NOE signalling to the call server rather than plain SIP, so it registers against a compatible Alcatel-Lucent platform and will not work as a generic SIP endpoint. Note the naming, because it catches people out: the 4028 is the IP model, while the visually similar 4029 is the digital variant for TDM extensions, and the two are not interchangeable. Genuine handsets remain a routine requirement for maintaining, expanding or replacing positions on existing OmniPCX deployments still in active service.
