The AudioCodes MP-118/8FXS/3AC is a genuine MediaPack 118 analogue VoIP gateway configured with eight FXS ports, allowing up to eight legacy analogue telephones or fax machines to be connected directly to an IP network. As a stand-alone gateway, it provides the mediation layer between traditional analogue equipment and modern IP telephony infrastructure, and is widely deployed for connecting legacy phones and fax machines to PBX and IP-PBX systems, for remote analogue extensions, and for specialised uses such as payphone networks, centralised IVR and quality-monitoring applications. The unit supports SIP, H.323 and MGCP signalling, giving broad interoperability with a wide range of IP-PBX and softswitch platforms, along with built-in echo cancellation and jitter buffering to maintain call quality over IP links. Its compact, self-contained design makes it well suited to multi-tenant unit (MTU) broadband access deployments, IP Centrex services and rural or remote-site telephony where a full-scale gateway platform would be unnecessary. AudioCodes has since discontinued the MP-118 range, recommending the MP-508 as its direct replacement, so this unit is most relevant for maintaining existing analogue-to-IP gateway deployments.
