Nokia NIF3023000: Luna VPN accelerator PCI interface card for Nokia IP security appliances.

The Nokia NIF3023000 is a Luna VPN accelerator PCI interface card, a cryptographic offload adapter that performs IPsec encryption and key exchange work in dedicated silicon rather than on the host processor.

Accelerators of this kind were fitted to firewall and VPN appliances of the late 1990s and early 2000s, where software encryption on a general purpose CPU could not keep pace with a filled network link. The Luna cards came from Chrysalis-ITS, a business later absorbed into SafeNet, and were supplied to appliance vendors rather than sold as a retail product.

The NIF prefix is the part number series Nokia used for interface cards in its IP security appliance range, and the closely related NIF4107000 is documented as the Luna VPN accelerator for the Nokia IP330, which places this card in that family. Confirm the host platform before ordering.
