The Huawei WD22UELP is a UELP (Universal E1/T1 Lightning Protection) unit, a surge-protection board used in Huawei BBU3900 and BBU3910 base band units. It provides lightning and surge protection for E1/T1 transmission lines, with a single UELP protecting up to four E1/T1 circuits (and the associated RGPS signal) between the BBU transmission board and external transmission equipment. The board carries an inside DB25 connector to the eNodeB transmission board and an outside DB26 connector to the external line, shielding the base station electrical interfaces from voltage transients on exposed copper cabling. As an optional plug-in unit within the BBU subrack, the UELP is a common spare on GSM, UMTS and LTE sites that use E1/T1 backhaul. Supplied refurbished, it is a straightforward replacement for maintaining or expanding installed Huawei distributed base stations.
