The Nortel DM1401096 is a Contivity 1100 Secure IP Services Gateway, later marketed as the Nortel VPN Router 1100. It is a branch-office appliance that combines IP routing, virtual private networking and a stateful firewall in a single desktop unit, built for organisations connecting sites over the Internet or a managed IP network.

The gateway provides a management port plus four 10/100Base-TX network ports and one broadband port, with two PCI expansion slots for optional interface cards. Standard memory is 128 MB with 64 MB of flash storage. It supports up to five concurrent VPN tunnels using IPSec, PPTP and L2TP, with DES, 3DES, AES and RC4 encryption options and IKE key exchange for authentication.
