HP AP864A: StorageWorks 1606 Extension SAN Switch, combining 16 FC ports and 6 GbE ports for FCIP-based SAN extension.

The HP AP864A is a StorageWorks 1606 Extension SAN Switch with the Power Pack+ software bundle, a rack-mountable switch combining up to sixteen 8 Gbps Fibre Channel ports with six 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports for Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) connectivity. It is purpose-built for extending SAN fabrics over distance rather than for local fabric switching alone.

The FCIP tunnelling capability lets organisations link Fibre Channel SANs across sites that would be impractical or costly to connect with native FC links, supporting remote data replication, backup and business continuity. The Power Pack+ bundle adds Advanced Zoning, WebTools, Adaptive Networking, Advanced Performance Monitor, Fabric Watch and ISL Trunking.

This switch suits organisations extending Fibre Channel SANs between sites for replication and disaster recovery. Tech-Star is UK-based and ships worldwide. Get in touch to confirm compatibility with your SAN fabric.
