The Huawei LS-8512-DC-OVS is a Quidway S8512 chassis with DC power entry, the frame of Huawei’s S8500 series of core routing switches. It houses the backplane, the fan area, the power supply area and the board slots that take the switch’s control and line cards.

The S8512 is the largest chassis in the S8500 series. It provides 14 slots, with the two in the middle reserved for SRPU main control and switching boards working in 1+1 redundancy. The remaining slots take line processing units carrying FE, GE and 10GE ports, and all modules are hot-swappable. The DC build runs from a -48 V DC feed, which suits exchanges and equipment rooms with a DC power plant.

S8500 switches were deployed at the core and aggregation layers of enterprise, campus and metro Ethernet networks in Huawei’s Quidway era. The series also includes the smaller S8505 and S8508 chassis.
