The Juniper PB-1OC48-SON-SFP is a OC-48 SONET/SDH Physical Interface Card (PIC) built for Juniper’s M-series and T-series multiservice edge and core routing platforms. It provides a single an OC-48 SONET/SDH port via a pluggable SFP optic. Like other PICs in this family, it installs into a Flexible PIC Concentrator (FPC) slot, where it handles line-rate framing and signalling for its media type before handing traffic to the router’s Packet Forwarding Engine for switching and lookup. These interface cards remain in active service on long-lifecycle M-series and T-series deployments still running Junos in production networks, and are commonly sourced as maintenance spares, capacity expansion, or like-for-like replacements when a card fails.
