The 3Com 3C16701 is an OfficeConnect 8-Port 10Mbps Ethernet Hub, part of 3Com’s entry-level OfficeConnect family aimed at home-office and small-business users needing basic shared-bandwidth connectivity for a small number of devices. As an unmanaged 10Mbps hub, all eight ports share a single collision domain, which was sufficient for the light traffic loads typical of the small networks OfficeConnect products were designed for, at a lower cost than 3Com’s managed SuperStack range aimed at larger sites. OfficeConnect hubs of this generation remain in service in a number of long-lived small-office installations, and a genuine spare such as this restores connectivity after a unit failure or extends an existing small network.
