The ADVA 0063708410 is a network element control unit (NCU) for ADVA’s FSP CWDM/DWDM transport platform, built to a 2.5HU card height with two RJ45 Ethernet management ports. The NCU is the shelf’s controller card: it runs the element management software, holds the shelf’s configuration and alarm state, and provides the network connection the management system uses to provision and monitor every other card in the shelf.

Two RJ45 Ethernet ports on a controller of this type typically support a management network connection plus a local craft-access port, or a working/protection pair for management network resilience. A shelf will not report to network management, and in many builds will not accept certain provisioning changes, without a working NCU fitted.
