The Alcatel 3AL98038AC is a SYNTH16 synchronisation (synthesizer) and Compact ADM common-control card for the Alcatel-Lucent 1662-SMC compact SDH metro multiplexer platform. It provides system timing/clock synthesis and shared add-drop multiplexer control functions that keep the 1662-SMC’s SDH traffic correctly synchronised across the network.

SYNTH16 cards are compatible across several members of the Alcatel-Lucent SDH product family, including the 1642EM and 1660SM platforms as well as the 1662-SMC, which share a common slot/card architecture for this control function.

This is a legacy but still deployed control card for the Alcatel-Lucent 1660SM/1662SMC SDH platform, useful as a like-for-like replacement or spare part for organisations maintaining existing installations.
