Compaq 349604-B21 Netelligent / StorageWorks / ProLiant Switch / Carrier Ethernet Line Card

The Compaq 349604-B21 is a 100Base-FX media module with ST connectors for the Netelligent 3320 and 3321 hubs. It installs in the hub’s media slot and terminates a multimode fibre segment, letting a 100Mbps repeated segment extend well past the distance twisted pair allows and linking hubs sited in separate wiring closets or separate buildings. ST bayonet connectors date the module to the earlier fibre convention used before SC became standard, so cable assemblies need to match. Because the 3320 and 3321 are repeaters rather than switches, the fibre link joins a single collision domain rather than segmenting traffic, which is the behaviour to expect when planning a replacement. After the 2002 merger with Hewlett Packard, Compaq option kits such as this one were carried forward under HP part numbers. Tech-Star, UK-based and shipping worldwide, stocks Netelligent media modules for legacy installations.
