HP A5624-62001 Brocade SilkWorm 2800 (HP-branded) Datacentre Switch

The HP A5624-62001 is a 16-port HP-branded Brocade SilkWorm 2800 Fibre Channel SAN switch, an entry-to-midrange Layer 2 storage-area-network switch built for connecting servers to shared storage in enterprise data centres. Based on Brocade’s SilkWorm 2800 platform and sold under HP’s own part number for HP StorageWorks SAN environments, it provides 16 Fibre Channel ports for fabric connectivity between hosts, switches and storage arrays, making it a common building block in mid-size SAN fabrics of its generation. The switch supports standard Fibre Channel fabric services such as zoning and name server functions, allowing it to interoperate within larger multi-switch SAN fabrics alongside other Brocade-based switches from HP, IBM and other OEM partners. As an unmanaged Layer 2 switch, it is straightforward to deploy in smaller SAN environments or as an edge switch feeding into a larger core-edge fabric design. Though now a legacy platform, the SilkWorm 2800 remains in service in many established SAN deployments where the fabric has not yet been refreshed, and refurbished units are commonly sourced to maintain existing infrastructure or provide spares.
