The HP J9471A is the ProCurve 3500-24-PoE (also badged E3500-24-PoE), a Layer 3 edge switch built around HP’s programmable ProVision ASIC. It provides 20 x 10/100Base-TX ports plus 4 x 10/100/1000Base-T ports with SFP mini-GBIC slots for fibre uplinks, and delivers integrated Power over Ethernet across its ports for VoIP handsets, wireless access points and IP cameras.

Layer 3 features include static and RIP routing, along with quality of service and access control lists for traffic prioritisation and security. IPv6 support and IEEE 802.1X port authentication make it suitable for edge deployments where identity-based network access is required. The switch is powered by a Freescale PowerPC processor with onboard flash for its operating software.

The 3500-24-PoE was a mainstay of HP’s ProCurve edge switching line, commonly deployed in office and campus wiring closets needing PoE for converged voice, data and wireless.
