The IBM 07P6949 is an InfiniBand fabric card from IBM’s GX-bus host channel adapter (HCA) family, connecting a POWER5 or POWER6-generation pSeries server directly into an InfiniBand switch fabric for high-bandwidth, low-latency clustering. IBM introduced these GX HCAs alongside its POWER5 High Performance Computing clusters, where InfiniBand replaced older SP Switch interconnects for workloads needing very high inter-node throughput, and the same fabric technology carried through into POWER6 clustered systems.
