IBM 44W4404: Nortel-built 1/10Gb Uplink Ethernet Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter, hot-pluggable, 14 internal GbE server ports.

The IBM 44W4404 is a Nortel-built 1/10Gb Uplink Ethernet Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter, an I/O-bay switch providing Layer 2 switching with Layer 3 routing across the chassis. It connects to each blade server over 14 internal Gigabit Ethernet ports on the BladeCenter mid-plane and is hot-pluggable, so it can be swapped without taking the chassis or the other blades down.

BladeCenter E and T chassis take up to four of these modules per chassis; BladeCenter H and HT take up to six when the optional Multiswitch Interconnect Module is fitted. Management runs over two internal 100 Mbit/s links back to the chassis management module, and the switch supports advanced spanning tree, link aggregation (including Cisco EtherChannel compatibility) and 802.1Q VLAN tagging.
