The IBM 49Y4294 is a Flex System EN2092 1Gb Ethernet Scalable Switch, an I/O-bay switch module for the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. It provides Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and routing with a mix of 1 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s uplink capability, 20 internal ports serving the compute nodes and 4 expansion slots for additional uplink capacity, and it is managed centrally through IBM Flex System Manager using port profiles and topology views.

Flex System switch modules are licensed in tiers (this base unit ships with 24x 1GbE port licences activated), and the EN2092 supports IPv6 Layer 3 forwarding as well as the virtualisation-aware features expected of a blade-chassis switch: VLAN tagging, port profiles that follow a migrating virtual machine, and stacking with other Flex System switches.
