The Juniper Networks 740-031981 (SFPP-10GE-LR) is a 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ transceiver module built for 10GBase-LR single-mode fibre links on Juniper routing and switching platforms. Operating at a 1310nm wavelength, it supports link distances of up to 10 kilometres over standard single-mode fibre with an LC duplex connector, making it a common choice for metro and campus interconnects, router-to-router links, and any application where a longer optical reach than short-range multimode optics is required. The module is hot-pluggable and fully compliant with the SFP+ multi-source agreement, so it installs directly into any SFP+-equipped Juniper interface without requiring a chassis reboot or additional configuration beyond standard interface setup. Digital optical monitoring (DOM) support allows engineers to track transmit and receive power, temperature and other diagnostics remotely, which is valuable for proactively identifying degrading optics before they cause a link failure.
