The Nortel AA1419018 is a 1-port 1000Base-WDM Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC), a single-fibre bidirectional optical transceiver transmitting on 1490nm and using an avalanche photodiode (APD) receiver for extended reach over one strand of fibre rather than a pair. Single-fibre WDM optics are always deployed in matched pairs, with the far end using the complementary wavelength (typically 1310nm), so confirm you are ordering the correct half of the pair rather than two of the same. The APD receiver gives this variant a longer optical budget than a standard PIN-diode GBIC, useful on longer single-fibre runs. GBIC-based optics of this generation are ordered by part number since wavelength and receiver type are fixed in the transceiver rather than configurable afterwards.
