The Nortel EB1412003 is an Alteon Application Switch 2424, a fixed-configuration 1U Layer 4-7 switch from the Alteon WebSystems line that Nortel acquired in 2000. The 2424 provides 24 ports of 10/100BASE-T plus 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports in SFP sockets (SFP modules not included), runs on autoselect 110/220V 50/60Hz power (power cord not included), and ships with Nortel’s standard AlteonOS preloaded for server load balancing, SSL offload and application-aware traffic management in front of a server farm. Nortel continued the Alteon application-switching line under its own brand until selling it in 2009, and the 2424 remains a compact, well-documented unit for anyone maintaining an existing Alteon-based server-farm deployment.
