The Nortel HR4138BA is a BSC equipment rack, the companion cabinet to the control rack in Nortel’s Base Station Controller architecture. It houses the bulk of the BSC’s active shelves, cabling and power distribution, working alongside the control rack to form a complete controller for a group of GSM base transceiver stations. It is a rack/cabinet assembly rather than an active card.

Nortel’s GSM base station subsystem architecture splits BSC function across dedicated control and equipment racks, and installations built on this architecture remain in service at a number of established GSM network sites.
