Nortel NT8D04BA (telecommunications transmission and networking portfolio) Telecom System Card / Module

The Nortel NT8D04BA is a Superloop Network (SNET) card for Meridian 1 systems, the network-shelf card that terminates a Superloop (Nortel’s high-capacity digital loop carrying up to 32 IPE (Intelligent Peripheral Equipment) line/trunk card time slots) into the system’s central switching network. Every IPE module in a Meridian 1 chassis is connected back to a Superloop Network card of this kind, making it one of the core cards that has to be present and working for an entire bank of line and trunk cards to have a path through the switch; a failure here can take down every card on the affected superloop rather than just one circuit. It sits in the same NT8D-prefix Meridian 1 network-hardware family as the Controller 2 (NT8D01AD), InterGroup Module (NT8D36AA) and Multigroup Network Module (NT8D35DC) cards used elsewhere in the same chassis range. Meridian 1 systems remain in service across a large installed base, and Superloop Network cards are a standard, routinely-stocked spare.
