The Nortel NTFN16CA is an E1A-8P (8-port E1) Inverse Multiplexing Function Processor card for the Nortel Passport 6400/7400-series multiservice switching platform, part of the same NTFN-prefixed inverse-mux FP family as the independently-confirmed NTFN14FA, NTFN14GA and NTFN17CA sibling cards. Inverse multiplexing combines several lower-speed E1 links into a single higher-capacity logical channel, and this function processor performs that aggregation for ATM traffic carried over 8 E1 ports on a Passport shelf. Passport 6400/7400 switches remain in service on a number of established carrier and enterprise networks, and genuine inverse-mux function processors such as this one are a routine requirement for maintaining full port capacity.
