The Nortel NTHR13EA is the MSS 15000-badged revision of the Balanced E1 Alarm/Bits Module used across the Nortel Passport 15000 / Multiservice Switch (MSS) 15000 timing shelf family (the sibling NTHR13BA carries the same function under Nortel’s earlier Passport-era labelling). It distributes the shelf’s building-integrated timing (BITS) reference over a balanced E1 interface and carries external alarm-contact status back to the switch’s management plane. Passport 15000 / MSS 15000 shelves remain active in a number of legacy carrier networks, and genuine timing/alarm spares of this type are a routine requirement when maintaining an existing shelf.
