Nortel NTKD13AA: TN-1X engineering order wire card, providing the maintenance speech channel carried in the SDH overhead.

The Nortel NTKD13AA is the engineering order wire card for the TN-1X, Nortel’s STM-1 add and drop multiplexer. An engineering order wire gives maintenance staff a speech channel carried inside the SDH section overhead, so engineers at either end of a span can talk while they work on it. We would still ask you to check the release code against the equipment it is destined for, because suffixes inside one part number are not always interchangeable.

Nortel’s TN-1X sits at the access edge of SDH networks, multiplexing plesiochronous tributaries up to an STM-1 aggregate and adding, dropping or passing traffic through at each node. Its subrack takes a defined set of plug-in cards, and networks built on it are maintained card by card long after the platform stopped being sold.
