The Nortel NTAB9969E5 is a Base Function Tray (BFT) for the Nortel Business Communications Manager (BCM) 400, fitted with a V.92 modem for PSTN dial-up access to the system. The Base Function Tray is the core module of the BCM 400 chassis, providing the system central processing, call control and base connectivity, with the fitted modem giving remote maintenance access, fax capability or dial-up connectivity as required by the installation. The BCM 400 was Nortel converged voice-and-data platform for small and medium businesses, combining a PBX telephone system with data networking and applications in a single chassis. BCM 400 deployments of this generation remain in service across a number of established small-business telephone systems, and genuine base function trays such as this one are a routine requirement for restoring a system after a core module failure.
