It provides two POWER4+ processor cores on a single FRU, fitted into the system’s processor socket to restore or upgrade processing capacity. POWER4+ was IBM’s mid-2000s refinement of the original POWER4 architecture, with a faster clock and larger on-card cache than the base POWER4 cards, and the two generations are not always interchangeable in the same chassis.
