The IBM 97P3158 is a Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI RAID Enablement card, supplied under feature code 5709, the same enablement family as the closely related part 97P6308. It is fitted alongside a base PCI-X dual-channel Ultra320 SCSI adapter, or replaces a system’s integrated disk controller in some Power5 and Power5+ configurations, and activates RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 support with 40MB of disk-controller cache rather than being a standalone controller card in its own right. Because it enables rather than replaces the base controller, it is only useful in a system already fitted with a compatible host adapter or integrated controller, and buyers should check that pairing before ordering.
