The Finisar FTLF8519P2BNL is a Finisar 2 Gbps Fibre Channel SFP transceiver operating at 850 nm over multimode fibre with a duplex LC interface, supplied into Dell storage and server systems.

850 nm shortwave and multimode go together: this is a short-reach module for connections inside a rack or a computer room, running roughly 300 m on OM2 and further on OM3, rather than for links between buildings. It is rated at 2 Gbps and negotiates down to 1 Gbps, which is what allows it to be mixed into an older fabric.

The part number is Finisar’s own rather than a Dell system part number, which is normal for optics: the module is built and coded by the optical manufacturer, then qualified and supplied by the system vendor. Some host equipment checks the vendor identifier programmed into the module, so it is worth confirming that the switch or HBA at each end accepts this coding.
