Finisar FTR-8519-7: 2Gb shortwave pluggable optical module, 850nm over multimode fibre.

The Finisar FTR-8519-7 is a 2Gb/s shortwave pluggable optical module working at 850nm across multimode fibre, part of the 8519 shortwave family that also covers 1000BASE-SX Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25Gb/s.

Modules in this family were fitted in quantity to early 2Gb Fibre Channel host bus adapters, fabric switches and storage array controllers, where the dual rate behaviour let one part number cover both 1Gb and 2Gb ports during the migration between the two. Optical budget on 50 micron multimode fibre runs to roughly 300 metres at 2Gb and further at the lower rate.

Some hosts of this generation reject optics whose EEPROM is not coded for them, so check the platform requirement first. Finisar was acquired by II-VI in 2019, a business since renamed Coherent.
