The Ciena 130-5719-900 is a 10G transceiver card with Forward Error Correction (FEC) for the Ciena Metro DWDM platform, fixed to the 195.1 THz ITU channel. FEC adds redundant coding to the optical signal so the receiving card can detect and correct transmission errors without a retransmission, extending reach and improving margin on long-haul or noisy DWDM spans compared with a non-FEC transceiver of the same rate. Like the platform’s other channel cards, it is locked to its stated frequency and is not interchangeable with a transceiver built for a different wavelength.
