The HP 346914-B21 is the Battery Backed Write Cache Enabler option kit for the Smart Array 6i controller, comprising the cache module and its rechargeable battery pack. Enabling write-back caching lets the controller acknowledge a write once it reaches cache rather than waiting for the disks, which materially improves write latency on RAID 5 volumes. The battery is what makes that safe: it holds the cache contents through a power loss so pending writes are flushed when the server restarts, protecting against the write hole that would otherwise risk array consistency.

The kit fits the Smart Array 6i embedded controller found on ProLiant servers of the mid-2000s generation and is installed directly onto the controller. It is an HP-era part from after the 2002 Compaq merger, which is why it sometimes appears under the older Compaq name.
