The Ciena R30-5311-900 is a Network Control Processor (NCP) board for the MultiWave Metro optical transport platform. Built around an embedded single-board computer, it provides the control-plane processing for the shelf rather than optical wavelength handling.

The NCP runs the network element software, manages configuration and alarms, and coordinates the operation of the optical channel and service cards installed in the system. It is the management and intelligence core of a MultiWave Metro node, giving operators centralised control of the DWDM shelf, and belongs to the same control-processor family as the 130-5311-900 MultiWave processor board.

This is a legacy Ciena MultiWave component, still required by operators maintaining deployed MultiWave Metro infrastructure or holding spares for lifecycle support.
