The Alcatel 3AL81429AA is an MX640GE matrix card for the Alcatel-Lucent 1678 MCC (Metro Core Connect) optical transport platform. It is the switching fabric of the shelf, providing up to 640 Gbit/s of cross-connect capacity that interconnects the node’s tributary and line cards.

As the central switch/matrix module, the MX640GE performs the higher-order and lower-order cross-connect functions that let the 1678 MCC groom, add, drop and route SDH/SONET and packet traffic between ports. Multiple shelves can be combined for greater capacity, with the platform scaling to multiple terabits per node.

Part of the Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia) optical portfolio, this card is legacy equipment still deployed in existing 1678 MCC networks.
