The card is fitted in a card slot of the SURPASS transmission shelf and operates alongside the controller and interface units that make up a complete add-drop multiplexer or cross-connect node. This is carrier transmission equipment used in metro and backhaul networks, not a HiPath or HiCom PBX board as earlier described.
