The Siemens S42024-L5165-A3-4 is a fan unit for the Siemens SURPASS hiT 7070 SDH transmission platform. It provides forced-air cooling for the equipment shelf, drawing air across the interface and switching cards to keep them within their operating temperature range and prevent thermal shutdown or premature component failure. The fan unit fits into the dedicated cooling position of the hiT 7070 chassis and runs continuously while the system is powered, forming part of the platform environmental management. The hiT 7070 is a Siemens multi-service provisioning platform used by carriers for metro and backhaul SDH transport, later absorbed into the Nokia Siemens Networks and Nokia portfolios.
