The IBM 3174-51R is a Table-Top Remote Controller within IBM’s 3174 Establishment Controller family, part of the IBM 3270 Information Display System. It provides nine coax ports, allowing it to control up to nine 3270-series terminals from a compact desktop-style enclosure.

The 51R model includes a single communications adapter offering a V.35 link at up to 56Kb, operating in either BSC (bisynchronous) or SDLC (SNA synchronous data link control) mode, and uses a 1.2MB floppy drive for configuration and microcode loading, a feature shared with the related 53R model. This let the controller support either an IBM host, an ASCII host, or both, depending on configuration.
