The HP 3R-A6181-AA is a 300GB Ultra320 SCSI hard disk drive spinning at 10,000 RPM, built in a 3.5-inch large form factor (LFF) design with an 80-pin hot-plug connector and 8MB of onboard cache. Also cross-referenced to HP’s option part 350964-B22 and spare part 404701-001, it delivers up to 320MB/s of burst throughput over the Ultra320 interface and is compatible with the same broad range of ProLiant DX, DL, ML, SL, BL, XL and CL server families as HP’s other 3.5-inch SCSI drives of the period. At 10,000 RPM the drive trades some of the raw random-access speed of HP’s 15K SCSI line for lower power draw and heat output, while still comfortably outperforming 7.2K midline drives, making it a sensible middle-ground choice for capacity-focused server storage that still needs reasonable I/O performance.
