The Ciena NXLNCEDD-REV 01M is an Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC) card from Ciena’s ONI Systems ONLINE 5000/7000 (ON7000) metro DWDM optical transport platform, a product line Ciena acquired with its purchase of ONI Systems Corp in 2002. Despite the NXLAN part-number prefix, this is not an Ethernet/LAN interface card. The OSC function carries the platform’s management, monitoring and control-plane signalling on a dedicated out-of-band wavelength, alongside the traffic-bearing DWDM channels handled by the platform’s NXWDM mux/demux cards.
