The Nortel DS1404002 is an 8648TX Enterprise Routing Switch Module, a 48-port 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet interface card for Nortel’s Passport/Accelar 8000-series routing switch chassis, the earlier non-Layer-3-enhanced sibling to the later 8648TXE module. It installs in a Passport 8006, 8010 or 8010co chassis alongside a CPU/switch-fabric module, adding high-density 10/100 Ethernet edge or aggregation capacity to the switch. Passport 8000-series chassis remain deployed as core and distribution-layer switching platforms in many established enterprise and carrier networks, and this module is a routine spare for restoring port capacity after a fault or expanding an existing chassis.
