The Nortel NTFN49AB is an eight-port V.11 function processor for the Passport 6400/7400 wide-area switching platform, an earlier lettered revision in the same NTFN49-prefix family as the standard NTFN49DD and Premium NTFN49GA cards. It terminates eight V.11 balanced synchronous serial circuits per card into the Passport shelf’s switching fabric, and is functionally interchangeable with the later revisions in the same family within their shared port-count and protocol specification, differing mainly in firmware and component-level updates made over the card’s production run. V.11 serial interfaces of this kind were commonly used for leased-line and inter-node connections on Passport 6400/7400 deployments through the 1990s and 2000s. A number of these nodes remain in service on legacy serial WAN infrastructure that predates the move to Ethernet-based aggregation.
