The Nortel NTJS35BA is a one-port E1 MVP (Multi-service Voice Processor) Enhanced function processor for the Passport 6400/7400 wide-area switching platform, built to carry a single E1 circuit’s worth of channelised voice and multiservice traffic with the enhanced feature set of the MVP card generation over the earlier voice-processing cards on the same chassis. It terminates the E1 trunk and processes its channels for voice and related multiservice applications, positioning it in the Passport function-processor line-up alongside the plainer Voice E1 cards but with additional processing capability the ‘Enhanced’ designation in Nortel’s naming denotes. Passport nodes running voice-over-packet or channelised-voice services were a standard part of carrier and large-enterprise voice infrastructure before the broader move to VoIP, and this card family supported that role on E1-terminated circuits specifically. A number of these nodes remain in service on legacy voice infrastructure that has not been migrated.
