The Nortel NT8R17AB is an IP line card. IP line cards are what let a Nortel PBX serve IP telephones alongside its traditional digital and analogue sets, terminating the voice over IP side of the system on the switch.

Meridian 1 is Nortel’s large enterprise PBX family, later continued as Communication Server 1000. A system is built from common equipment, network and peripheral shelves, with intelligent peripheral equipment cards providing the line, trunk and service circuits. A great many are still in daily use, and they are maintained by replacing individual cards.
