It provides the multi-rate SONET/SDH optical interface for an OME 6500 line or tributary card, with the IR designation setting its reach at the shorter end of the platform’s transceiver options rather than the long-reach variants used for longer spans.

OME 6500 is Nortel’s metro optical transport and switching platform, and its line-side and tributary cards take a range of pluggable SFP/XFP optics to match each circuit’s rate and reach requirement.
