The ADVA 0063300045 is a dispersion compensation fibre module for ADVA’s FSP-3000 DWDM transport platform. Chromatic dispersion accumulates as an optical signal travels along fibre and, left uncorrected, spreads out the pulses that carry the data until the receiver can no longer distinguish them; a dispersion compensation module counteracts this by introducing an equal and opposite amount of dispersion into the path.

Fibre-based dispersion compensation modules use a length of specially manufactured dispersion-compensating fibre (as opposed to a fibre Bragg grating) to correct dispersion, and are specified by the span length and fibre type they are built to correct for; the correct module has to be matched to the actual route length and dispersion characteristics of the fibre it is protecting.
